Wexford, August 1-4 2008

Marian and I took Friday 1 August off work to get an early start to the Bank Holiday (public holiday) weekend. We packed the tent and camping gear into the car and drove across the country from the west coast through the midlands to County Wexford on the "Sunny" Southeast coast.
Finding a camping site on August Bank Holiday weekend is not that easy, but we did manage to find a nice camping ground at Blackwater, just north of Wexford town. The camping ground was right next to the beach, about a kilometer past the village.

The man at the camping ground office showed us our spot and we set up our tent and dining suite, thinking that we had found a good site.

The next day we moved to a much nicer spot:

The weather over the weekend was actually quite sunny, and we did get a few swims in. The Curracloe Strand is a long beach that lies north of Wexford town. The Curracloe Strand stood in for Omaha Beach, Normandy in the film "Saving Private Ryan".

Of course County Wexford's other claim to fame is that the Slaney River runs through it. On the way home on Monday, we stopped in Enniscorthy to admire it.
